Network Engineering

Network Engineering

The Network Engineering course prepares students to support and administer network operating environments. Computer networks are a mandatory component of the information infrastructure of modern enterprises. E-commerce, corporate communications and access to other key informational resources all depend on computer networks, which have become the electronic highways upon which business is conducted. The ability of businesses to compete in today's fast-paced, high-tech world often depends on the reliability and robustness of their organizational networks. This 1200 hour program prepares students to support and administer network operating environments. Students will learn how to plan, design and implementation of Local and Wide Area Networks (LANs and WANs). Students will learn how to support hardware, desktop software, and client connectivity. Students will learn skills for effective help desk and customer service support and basic network administration. This concentration begins preparation for the following industry standard certifications: CompTIA Network+® and A+, Novell® CNASM, and Microsoft Certified Professional (MCP) in Windows Client and Server.

Employment Opportunities:
Employment of network and computer systems administrators is expected to increase by 23 percent from 2008 to 2018, according to the U.S. Bureau of Labor Statistics much faster than the average for all occupations. Computer networks are an integral part of business, and demand for these workers will increase as firms continue to invest in new technologies. The increasing adoption of mobile technologies means that more establishments will use the Internet to conduct business online. This growth translates into a need for systems administrators who can help organizations use technology to communicate with employees, clients, and consumers. Growth will also be driven by the increasing need for information security. As cyber attacks become more sophisticated, demand will increase for workers with security skills.
